Girls from Harpenden and Wheathampstead took part in a huge residential event as part of an extra-special Stay Away adventure to mark 100 years of Brownies.

More than 200 Rainbows, Brownies & Guides joined together to celebrate the Big Brownie Birthday.

Before settling down to snooze, the girls enjoyed a range of exciting activities, including zip wire, aerial trek, leap of faith and the 3G swing.

The activities were drawn from the Guiding Adventure programme which builds girls' confidence and self-esteem, encourages them to become active citizens and learn about the wider world and gives them a space to have fun and to be themselves with other girls.

Charlotte Evans from 17th Harpenden Brownies said:  "I have made lots of new friends and had loads of fun."

Atalie Gaines, district guider said: "This has been a truly inspirational event, which we hope the girls will remember for the rest of their lives."

Chief guide, Gill Slocombe added: "It's fantastic to see such a large number of girls of all ages and their leaders challenging themselves in the outdoors and working together. This weekend they will have made some very special "Guiding" memories.
