An artist famous for his cover design on The Beatles' Sgt Pepper’s album has paid tribute to an independent shop in St Albans.

Sir Peter Blake has created a new artwork called High Street Heroes in the run up to Small Business Saturday, which is on December 6.

The artwork features 61 shopkeepers, ¬ including Deryane Tadd from The Dressing Room, holding the tools of their trades from 40 different small businesses from across the country.

Deryane Tadd said: "It’s great that someone of Sir Peter Blake’s stature is lending his support to small businesses and we’re very proud to be a part of it."

The Dressing Room is a women’s fashion boutique opened ten years ago.

Sir Peter Blake said: "Small shops and the Great British Shopkeeper have been at the forefront of British culture for hundreds of years now.

"Having worked at a local butcher at the age of 13 I have also experienced the dedication and hard work that goes into running a small shop.

"It is for all these reasons that I am thrilled to be lending my support to a campaign that champions small businesses."

The celebratory artwork has been released online with the aim of encouraging the public to show their support for the Small Business Saturday movement, which generated half a billion pounds for small businesses last year.
