Youngsters at a nursery in St Albans enjoyed an energetic week of activities as they took part in Road Safety Week

Staff at Busy Bees Nursery in Hatfield Road designed activities aimed at teaching pupils about taking care when walking, cycling, roller-skating or crossing roads, and being aware of other road users.

The children made their own traffic lights and played games and sang songs about stopping and starting.

The annual event that ran between November 17 and 23 is coordinated by BRAKE, the road safety charity, with this year’s theme being ‘Look out for each other’.

As part of the week, special guest Christine Mawby, the local Lollipop Lady, came into the nursery pre-school to explain their own role in the community and talk with the children about key issues in road safety.

Nursery manager, Lorraine Middleton, said: "Road safety is a vital piece of education in every child’s life, particularly today with our busy roads and so many distractions for drivers and other road users. Our aim is always to learn through play, and we ensured that our activities were fun and engaging. The children responded really positively and had a wonderful time getting involved while absorbing the key messages."
