More than 100 members of St Albans Masorti Synagogue (SAMS) gave 11 projects in St Albans some special treatment as part of Mitzvah Day last Sunday.
Projects included clearing overgrowth in Fleetville cemetery, planting trees in Heartwood Forest in Sandridge and litter picking along the Alban Way.
The event was the Jewish-led day of social action that asks people to give their time, not their money, and was the tenth annual Mitzvah Day. Simon Samuels, co-chair of SAMS, said: “Mitzvah day is a hugely important event in out calendar and one we look forward to all year.
“It is a key part of the SAMS ethos to contribute to our local community and we were proud to see a record number of our members take part in projects that will make a real difference to individuals and the wider St Albans public.”
