A combination of Friday 13 and a black cat proved to be an auspicious day - for the cat.

The one-year-old moggie had been found in Belsize village square in London in April. Even though the door to her cage was missing, she was too scared to leave it.

Fortunately she was left 10ft from the door of Village Vet Hampstead, and was taken in by one of the staff.

Too nervous even to be held, she had an unusual habit of eating with her paw rather than from a bowl.

She had no collar or microchip, and staff at the practice decided to call her Beyoncé.

Village Vet recruitment manager Tom Heward took a shine to Beyonce and decided to adopt her.

The date was set for her to be picked up - Friday May 13 - and Mr Heward picked her up from the firm's St Albans branch at the end of his working day.

Mr Heward decided to give her a new name, and after trying out a few different names on her, said he saw her prick up her ears at Trixie.

So it's goodbye to Beyoncé and her harsh London life and hello to Trixie the Hertfordshire kitty.
