Thirty new secondary school places are a step closer after Hertfordshire County Council agreed a £13million investment to increase the number of places.

The county council’s cabinet today agreed to create an additional 30 places at Beaumont School, Oakwood Drive.

This comes as part of a £13.26m investment to boost the number of school places in Three Rivers, St Albans and Hitchin.

Additional classrooms and other facilities will be created by 2018, when the additional number of pupils will be introduced.

Cllr David Williams, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We are committed to making sure that every child in Hertfordshire has a place at one of our great schools so they can reach their full potential.

“That means ensuring the right number of school places in the right location. We will continue to invest money to ensure that where the county’s population grows we build the appropriate infrastructure.”
