Stories of a Holocaust survivor, the grandson of Iraq’s Director General of the Treasury and the descendant of a famous 18th century boxer are being displayed as part of a history project at St Albans Masorti Synagogue (SAMS).
SAMS Roots project opened on Sunday, June 26 by the Mayor Cllr Frances Leonard and received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The project shares the stories, photographs and artefacts from twelve members of the synagogue, including the preserved tattoo from Kitty Moxon Hart OBE, a Holocaust survivor.
Helen Singer, SAMS Hon Secretary and Roots Project Organiser said: “This collection of stories provides a rich insight into Jewish life and experience across time and place, including Peru, Canada and South Africa as well as Eastern Europe and more locally, St Albans.”
There will also be a display during the week commencing July 4 in the entrance to the St Albans City and District Council Offices, St Peter’s street.
