Girls have won a prize their school for the second year in a row.

St George’s School, Harpenden, won The Good Schools Guide's prize for best performance by girls taking art & design at an English comprehensive school.

The award comes a year after girls studying additional science won a prize for their "excellent" exam results.

The mixed day and boarding school, in Sun Lane, Harpenden, takes children from age 11 to 18.

The awards, which are in their 10th year, are based on a detailed analysis of the most recent examination results, and are designed to highlight consistently good teaching.

Head teacher Raymond McGovern said: “We are absolutely delighted to be acknowledged in this way for our excellence in girls’ additional science and art and design.

"This is a very proud moment for St Georges and we are sure it will inspire and encourage all pupils who are working towards both their GCSEs and A levels.”
