London Colney lost 1-0 at home to Northwood in their latest friendly after conceding a controversial last minute penalty.

The Blueboys got off to a solid start and almost scored when Cain Davey’s effort was cleared off the line and the follow-up from Jimmy Hartley was saved by the Northwood keeper.

Hartley went close again but his shot went wide of the target. But the visitors nearly made the breakthrough when a strike rebounded off the crossbar.

Northwood again hit the woodwork after the break when a shot came back off the post. Hartley again offered a threat for the hosts but his powerful strike was tipped over the bar by the keeper.

Northwood were again denied by the woodwork with keeper Jack Smith well beaten.

With the match heading for a goalless draw, a penalty was awarded after the referee’s assistant spotted a handball in the area.

London Colney picked up a 2-0 win over Ealing Town last week with goals from Shaun Murphy and Davey.

The Blueboys also drew 2-2 with St Albans City Under-21s after goals from Greg Shaw and Hartley helped them fight back from 2-0 down.
