St Albans Hockey Club chief executive Andy Forshaw was the hero in goal for the men’s team, answering an 11th hour call-up to play in a 2-1 win against Felixstowe.
St Albans conceded an early goal but equalised just before the interval with a dazzling Mark Lowden solo effort.
Forshaw then pulled off a fine double save midway through the second half.
Tom Hudson seized the initiative with a circle penetration finished off sharply by Matt Street to seal the win.
Two goals from Tash Humphris saw the ladies’ Firsts continue their impressive run with a 2-0 win over Wimbledon in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Oaklands.
With penalty corner strikes in each half, Humphris ended the day as the league’s leading goal scorer.
Elsewhere, St Albans Ladies Seconds won again at Folkestone 3-0 to forge ahead at the top of their league, while in a special league encounter the men’s Sixths defeat the Sevenths 3-0.
