London Colney fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at home to third-placed Harefield United in South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

The Blueboys were in real trouble after conceding twice in the opening 25 minutes but a hat-trick from new signing James Ewington turned the match on its head.

The visitors started brightly which saw keeper Jack Smith tested early on when he had to be on his toes to push away a dangerous swirling ball going towards goal from Ryan Kinnane.

Harefield took the lead after 15 minutes when Harry Newman managed to curl a corner kick into the net.

The Blueboys tried to hit back quickly and Dan Power made a great surging run forward and played the ball to Ewington whose low drive was saved by Mathew Elston-Bull.

It got even worse midway through the half when the visitors extended their lead. A quick break led to Ricky Pither applying the finishing touch past Smith.

This setback really woke the Blueboys up and they started to play some neat passing football down both wings to try and pull these goals back.

Tom Smith shot just over the bar after good work from Spencer Clarke-Mardel before Stefan Geraldis saw Elston-Bull make a good save from his low drive.

The hosts pulled one back before half-time when Power slipped the ball to Geraldis and his cross was swept into the net by Ewington.

London Colney made it 2-2 five minutes into the second half when Geraldis set up Ewington and he fired home the equaliser.

Ewington nearly added a third goal when he burst clear again but this time his low drive flew past the far post.

Clarke-Mardel saw his long-range strike well saved by the visiting keeper but Smith also had to be alert to keep out an effort from Newman.

The winning goal came 11 minutes from time when a long pass from Shaun Murphy resulted in Ewington beating the offside trap and he blasted his shot into the corner of the net.

The Blueboys Reserves drew 3-3 at Hadley Reserves with goals from Ronnie Blagden, James Smithson and Jack Nevin.
