St Albans City have strengthened their attack for next season by signing striker Billy Medlock and midfielder Lewis Hilliard.

Pacy forward Medlock has moved to the Saints from Sutton United after holding off competition from other clubs.

The striker’s best return came when scoring 26 goals in a season for Eastbourne Town in the 2013-14 campaign.

Medlock moved to Sutton United in October where he netted five goals in 11 appearances before returning to Tonbridge on loan. He has also had spells at Horsham and Lewes.

His task will be to help fill the void of John Frendo after the club's top scorer for the last two seasons joined Hemel Hempstead Town this summer.

Joint-manager James Gray said: “He is a different player to what we have here already. He was someone who caused us lots of problems last season when we played against Sutton and we noted that and made a point of trying to get him.

“We’ve got some sizable lads here whereas he is a small and nippy centre-forward. He doesn’t just stay in one area because he moves into angles and drags defenders around. He’s a completely different type of player but still scores his fair share of goals.

“There were several clubs interested in him so we’re pleased that he wanted to join us and that we managed to sell the club to him.”

Hilliard, 24, will provide a wealth of options in attack where he can play in a variety of forward positions.

He started off his career at Rushden & Diamonds and had loan spells at Ware and Banbury United before moving to St Neots Town in 2010.

His form at the club earned him the players’ player of the year, supporters’ player and manager’s player of the season award as he finished top scorer in the 2013-14 campaign with 24 goals in all competitions.

Gray, who intends to use him as a left-sided forward, said: “He’s a player I’ve been trying to get since we took the job. On his day he is someone that will excite the fans and get people off their seats. He’s two-footed, an all-round player and I think he will become a crowd favourite.”

Meanwhile, Dunstable Town have signed former Saints pair David Keenleyside and James Kaloczi.

Midfielder Keenleyside made 27 appearances last season while utility player Kaloczi played 26 times during the last campaign.

Gray said: “James wanted to go out and play regularly and I couldn’t give him those assurances here but hopefully he can progress and he may even end up back here in the future. David had an in and out last season but he has come a long way. I thought another season here would have been good for him but he’s opted to jump ship so we move on.”
