St Albans City have completed the signing of former captain Ben Martin.

The defender helped Boreham Wood win promotion to the National League after leaving the Saints in December.

But he has featured in pre-season for City and has now signed National League forms to play for the club again next season.

Martin told the club website: "I’m delighted to return and look forward to a successful campaign, obviously I know most of the lads which is good for me and with the additions James Gray and Graham Golds have made I feel we can improve on last season."

Martin, who has made more than 200 appearances for the Saints, came off the bench in the second half of Saturday's 6-2 win at Isthmian Division One North side Waltham Abbey.

Defender Omar Beckles has left Clarence Park having signed a professional contract with National League side Aldershot Town.

Beckles impressed for the Saints after arriving from Hornchurch last November and his form has earned a one-year deal at Aldershot.

Joint manager Graham Golds told the club website: "Obviously we are disappointed to lose a player of Omar’s quality but we’ll never prevent anyone from progressing up the footballing ladder.

"We wish Omar all our very best in the National League with Aldershot and I’m sure he’ll be keeping an eye on our results having been a huge part of this dressing room since his arrival last year.

"That said, we have to move on and this departure gives an opportunity to one of the many other superb players we have at our disposal."
