London Colney suffered a 3-2 defeat at Yaxley in the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Blueboys dominated the first half but could not find the breakthrough after missing a number of chances.

The hosts took the lead in the second half after they launched a counter-attack and Daniel Cotton smashed the ball past goalkeeper Charlie May.

It got worse for London Colney when Cotton curled the ball into the area and Sam Spencer was afforded too much space as he headed the ball into the net.

The visitors responded and Jon Clements’ strike was pushed round the post by goalkeeper Andy Stevens.

London Colney kept the pressure on and were rewarded with a goal in the 84th minute.

Charlie Smith played the ball into the box which saw Lee Close head the ball on and Clements nipped in to flick an effort past the keeper.

The Blueboys missed a golden chance in injury time when Shaun Murphy was left unmarked but headed over the bar.

The home side made it 3-1 when Jon Stead’s free-kick took a deflection off the wall and bounced into the net.

But London Colney pulled one more back through Clements’ close-range finish.

But the Blueboys could not find an equaliser as the side were knocked out of the FA Vase.

The Blueboys are away to Tring Athletic in the league next Saturday.

London Colney Blues beat Tring on the weekend 4-1 with goals from Dave Townsend, Tim Frettier, Ryan Houghton and Samuel Olaiwole.
