Tennis at St Albans School is thriving after winning the Under-18 category of the Hertfordshire County Doubles Tournament while junior pupils put in highly encouraging performances to take home the Under-14 Plate.
Charlie Broom and George Davis, St Albans School’s senior doubles pairing, reached the competition’s final after winning their first three matches.
The final, which as expected was the toughest match, saw the duo go down by 3-0. The boys rallied to win the subsequent six games for a 6-3 victory to win the tournament.
Broom, who has a career best world ranking of 167, will be moving to America this year after being awarded a tennis scholarship at Dartmouth College, an Ivy League university.
In the Under-14 category, Danny Anderson and Hugh Craig, who lost their opening match and were entered into the Plate competition, impressively won all of their remaining matches to bring back the silverware.
Alex Backhaus and Matt Hoole put in highly commended performances to reach the U14 Plate semi-final.
